Membership at the Metropolitan Opera Club

Immerse yourself in the culture of New York's Metropolitan Opera

The Metropolitan Opera Club is open for approximately 150 opera performances each Met season, giving our members unprecedented access. We maintain 23 of the 30 subscription series of opera that are offered each season (excluding only the Friday series 4, the Saturday Matinee series 4 and all Saturday evening series performances). The subscription costs are shared among the Subscribing members, substantially reducing individual seat prices.

Besides access to performances, the Club offers a friendly yet elegant environment, with cocktails or dinner just steps away from the performance in our private dining room, both before and during intermissions. The Club dining room is located on the Dress Circle level of the opera house, accessible by private elevator located next to the box office, opening directly into our dining room.

The Club also offers ticket services for its members to obtain preferred seating in non-club seats for all regular performances, or for premieres and gala events. The Club has an attended coat check service adjacent to the dining room.

  • Types of Membership
    • Membership in the Club entails certain responsibilities. Members must be willing and able to make a significant contribution to the Metropolitan Opera and to the Club. There are four classes of membership: Subscribing, Associate, Junior, and Non Resident Associate.

      Subscribing Members

Subscribing members are the only voting members of the Club, have full use of the Club's facilities, and may use the Club boxes at all performances to which the Club has subscribed. Subscribing Members may propose candidates for any class of Membership in the Club.

      Associate Members

The Associate members have full use of the Club Room. They may not sit in the Club Boxes by themselves, or with guests, but may sit in the Club boxes upon invitation by a Subscribing member. Associate Members may propose candidates for Associate, Junior and Non Resident Associate membership

      Junior Members

Junior members must be under 37 years of age at the time of their election. Junior Members have full use of the Club Room. Junior members may propose candidates for Junior membership

      Non Resident Associate

Non Resident Associate members may not sit in the Club Boxes and are allowed limited use of the Club Room, no more then five times per season. Such members may not have a place of abode within 350 miles of New York City. All members are invited to attend Club Dinners and Benefit performances. The number of members of the Club is limited by the seating capacity of the Club Boxes and by the size of the Club Room. Members may obtain information regarding the membership procedures from the Club Manager or the Chairman of the Membership Committee.
